Danish Visa Rules

Information about who needs a visa for entering Denmark.

If you wish to visit Denmark for a short period of time, you must obtain a visa prior to entry if you come from a country with a visa requirement for entering Denmark.

Here you can see the list of countries whose citizens need a visa to enter Denmark.

If you have a valid passport and a valid residence permit for a Schengen country or a valid Schengen visa, you do not need a visa to visit the Schengen countries. You can travel as a tourist for a period of up to 90 days within a 180 days period. This means that if you have a valid Schengen visa, it is also valid in Denmark or if you have a Swedish residence permit you can also visit Denmark. Be aware that Greenland and the Faroe Islands are not a part of Schengen and you therefore need a special visa to visit these places.

If you have a visit visa for Sweden, the processing time of an application for visa to Denmark might take up to 30 days. Therefore, please contact the embassy well in advance before your intended travel. All visa applicants need to book an appointment prior to visiting the Embassy. Please call +46 08 406 75 00 during consulate opening hours to arrange an appointment.

Application for a visa for Denmark must be made online through Visa Self Service Denmark (VSS). When you have applied online, please print the cover letter from the VSS webpage and bring the letter with you when you visit the Embassy.

Important notice: You must apply in person and you must bring the required documentation, including the signed cover letter from your online application, to the Danish Embassy. If you do not bring the required documentation, we cannot process your application. To see which documentation is needed for your application, please check the homepage of the Danish Immigration Service. If you need to provide an invitation with your application for business visa, personal visit visa or other visa types, you can find the invitation form here.

The fee is SEK 570 for adults and 340 SEK. for children between 6 and 11 years. The fee is not refundable.

For more information or booking an appointment, call the embassy at +46 08 406 75 00 during Consulate opening hours: Monday-Wednesday 9 am to 12 pm and Thursday 1-4 pm.

Please note that an application can only be processed if all documents are present.
