As from 21st May 2012 Danish residence cards must contain biometrics (digital photograph, signature and fingerprints of both index fingers). From this date all applications for a Danish residence permit must be handed in in person at the Embassy of Denmark or directly with the Danish Immigration Service in Copenhagen.

Children under 6 (age 6 minus 1 day) are not required to give fingerprints.

Important: Applicants who have a valid Swedish residence permit do not need a visa for visiting Denmark. You can therefor apply for Danish residence and work permit directly from the Immigration Service in Copenhagen. For more information call the Danish Immigration service at +45 35 36 66 00.

All applicants must book an appointment at the Embassy to submit an application. Please contact the embassy on +46 (0)8 406 75 00 to book an appointment. Opening hours: Monday-Wednesday 9am–12pm and Thursday 1pm–4pm.

Please be aware that the embassy can have a waiting time of four - six weeks.

If you have applied for residence permit online or direktly to the Danish Immigration Service in Copenhagen you can visit the embassy to obtain your biometrics. To submitt your biometrics you need to book an appointment. For more information look here.

 

Please note the following: 

You will require a "Case Order ID" (obtainable online) and pay a fee (payable online) before submitting your application to the embassy. The application fee is payable to the Danish Agency for Labour Retention and International Recruitment in addition to the service fee charged by the Embassy. Applications should normally be made in your home country or in the country where you are currently residing. See information above about the possibility to apply from Copenhagen.

Please follow the guidelines below:

The application form is AR1 Application for residence and work permit for employees (non-EU/EEA citizens). Application for residence and work permit for family members of a foreign national who is to work or study in Denmark. 

Please note the following:

  • Please read the guidelines on the front of the form “How to apply” carefully before making an application (the application process must be started by your employer in Denmark before you apply), state your Case Order ID and provide refund information in the appropriate boxes on the form, enclose payment receipt with your application.
  • Please note that if you have not obtained a Case Order ID and made the payment online before you submit your application, the Danish Agency for Labour Retention and International Recruitment may reject your application.

The following is required for an application:

1. A completed application form AR1 (please see guidelines on the front of the application form). Please provide your Swedish contact details: address, mobile telephone number and e-mail address.
 
2. Original passport.

3. Employment contract and job description (not more than 30 days old).

4. Documentation for your educational background.
 
5. Documentation for authorization (only if the job requires Danish authorization). Information about authorization is available under “Job Card Scheme” at www.newtodenmark.dk.

6. Additional documents supplied by the employer (see “Which documents are required” on the front of the application form).

7. Non-refundable fee of SEK 1840 per applicant. 

Accompanying family members SEK 1840 per application (children under 18 included in the application are free of charge).   

Family members of EU/EEA nationals are free of charge (copy of EU/EEA national's passport and Marriage Certificate required).
